Tonight a friend from the Afro-Pop Radio Show, Jeff Pierre, invited me to a live reggae show at NYC's West Village venue S.O.B.S. (on the 1 train at Houston and Varick) The venue itself reminds me of an old swing club/speakeasy. While you experience and listen to the live music, you can order from a latin based menu that has mixed drinks and appetizers . It's not a dinner club club but I guess it kinda has that vibe. The soundsystem is pretty banging and the sound booth sits above the full-liquor bar that is a few steps above the dance floor/ tables.

Anyways, It's been a loOoNG time since I've gone to a live show-- NY is getting me back to my roots. You get so tied up into the nightclub/party scene as a DJ that you forget (well maybe sometimes you do) that a whole 'nother world exists out side of a dark basement or club where the walls of bass and lasers hide.

I grew up listening to Jamaican ska bands like the Skatalites while attending D.I.Y. Shows surounding the ska/rocksteady counterculture. I collected The Specials, Isaac Green and the Skalars, Hepcat, the Impossibles, Mephiskapheles, Operation Ivy.... and now BACHACO

The vibrant horn section and cumbia inspired drum beats topeed with latin styled vocals, built a seamless live performance that kept my full attention. Hailing from Miami, FL, They're a six piece band who's origins span from Venuzuela, Columbia, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and the USA. The name "Bachaco" explained by their Bassist, Jose Morrillo, says that it is a translation, meaning "leaf cutting ants", that are everywhere Latin America.

You can catch them on tour throughout the rest of the summer or visit their website at www.bachaco.net.

I Djed at the Empire Hotel Rooftop in NYC last Thursday. It was pretty amazing. Good food (tempura mushrooms), Good Sound, Good Drinks (Veuve Cliquot), and Good vibes ( tons of nice professionals looking to network and expand their circles.) It can Get chilly with the breeze if you're not dressed for it so bring a jacket and drink some whiskey.

I hit up Zoo York for their Field Operative position with the most basic email.

My name is Anna Dang aka dj ANNALOG
I love Zoo
 York.
I love skateboarding.
I love New York.

The end."

and  next thing I knew I was making my way to the  Maloof Money Cup, to be a part of Skateboarding history-- it's like being at the world cup of Skateboarding.

The Contest was so fucking HOT/ HUMID but overall rad. There were soooooo many people. The amazing part about always being there is the family you make and the love you share for the sport.

I was able to romp around the park, take photos and make friends with Plan B Rider Paul Rodriguez and skate the course.  I met Zoo York enthusiasts and signed autographs for the youth in the tents. Girls were hyped to see fellow girl riders too.  If you're not familiar with Girl Riders Organization, GRO, they inspire, educate, and support Girls in Action Sports.

I made this mix-tape about a month ago for the drive down to Miami from Orlando for Winter Music Conference. With hopes that the homie Asher Roth would give a listen and take me on tour with him :) I haven't posted it anywhere else until now so hopefully it'll make it's way to him somehow. Maybe America's Best Dance Crew will hire me to make mix-tapes for the battles as well? Yeah I know, that'd be amazing... so give a listen and comment and pass it along to your area crew! much love and thanks for always supporting me. -AD
