It's been a minute since I've honestly listened to an entire album... let alone an entire track. My A.D.D. prevents that, but with anything you do, it takes dedication and determination to finish, once you've started it. In the past, I'd graze and fast forward through tracks to see if i could play them out or sample them, but as I've learned to comb through songs a little bit more mindfully, songs sound entirely different when you actively listen to them. In my opinion, disco house can be tasteful, danceable or complete cottage cheese.
In this case of streaming VHS or BETA's forthcoming album, Diamonds and Death, I've discovered their sound as something to be even more spacily like able and evolved from their last albums, Night on Fire (2004) and Bring on the Comets (2007). Both albums had way more guitar, and seemed to have more of a live P.A. feel whereas this album is more produced, synthy and vocaly. And there's nothing wrong with that--I love Craig's voice. His haunting like coo of a voice makes their songs unique but almost ABBA like in such a good way. And again there is nothing wrong with liking ABBA. I have to also admit that the first time meeting the Lead Vocalist/Guitarist, Craig Pfunder, I was like "Wow, You're the only other Six foot Asian I've met in a long time who isn't blood related to me." Unsure of what his band was going to sound like I immediately took comfort in his appearance alone, which back then in Louisville, KY screamed, "Too cool for this town." --Which could also explain theirs and my relocation to New York City. hahaha. Anyways, I look forward to seeing them perform again and hope that you too will make it out to a show of theirs. Good job boys and nice moustache Mark. xo- AD For the past five years, I've had the opportunity to dance, make a mix-tape, and clown around with the crazy awesome and talented O'neal McKnight. I've seen him grow from a dancing stylist, to a club performer and bangin track maker. His latest hit to make moves on the dance floor and airwaves wil make you "Crazy." I feel honored and humbled to be a part of O'neal's amazing life... "Cheers to all the Success!"- xoxo Another favorite track if you need more O'neal :-) |
